Knights Lose Close to Milligan
Grayson, KY - The KCU VolleyKnights hosted the Buffs from Milligan University for an Appalachian Athletic Conference volleyball match. In one of the closest contests in recent memory, the Buff pulled out the road win by a 1-3 (26-24, 26-28, 23-25, 27-29) score.
The duo of Grace Morris and Kristin Upshaw-Mendoza both posted double-doubles during the match. For Morris in was a kill/block version as she had 12 kills and a solo plus 13 assisted blocks while Upshaw-Mendoza went the more traditional route with 13 kills and 22 digs. Also reaching double figures in kills, Delanie Gilliland had 10. Lyndi Starkey was credited with 23 assists and her running mate, Kileigh Boggs added another 15 on her side of the rotation.
But the defense was the star of the show for KCU. At the net, the Knights as a tem collected 22 total team blocks (3 solo/38 assisted) which is two weeks’ worth in most cases. As the score would indicate the closeness of play, the total dig totals came out with 77 for the VolleyKnights and 78 for the Buffaloes.
Besides Morris’ block total, Gwen Messer also had double-digit assisted blocks with 10 and no fewer than eight Knights were in the block column on the stat sheet. Anna Cruser and Ashlyn Funk added 10 and 16 digs, respectively.
