Grenadiers Use Big Inning to Pull Away
The Kentucky Christian Knights battled through an emotional doubleheader Saturday at Grayson Sports Park against the Indiana Southeast Grenadiers, earning a dramatic 8–7 walk-off victory in Game One before falling 11–3 in Game Two.
The split moves Kentucky Christian to 10–8 overall and 4–4 in conference play
In game two, Indiana Southeast responded quickly in the second game, breaking the game open with a four-run third inning.
A two-run double from Grace Stapleton highlighted the inning as the Grenadiers built a 4–0 lead. Kentucky Christian answered with an RBI single from Alyna Ruiz in the bottom of the third.
The Knights added two more runs in the fourth inning when Kylie Mathes drove in a run with a single and Madison Penrod followed with an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 6–3.
However, Indiana Southeast continued to apply pressure, scoring three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to secure the 11–3 victory.
Despite the loss, Ritchhart noted the effort his team showed throughout the day.
"Game two didn't go the way we wanted, but our team kept competing," Ritchhart said. "Indiana Southeast swung the bats well, but I'm proud of the way our players battled all day long."
He added that the split could still serve as momentum moving forward.
"A split against a good team gives us something to build on," Ritchhart said. "If we keep playing with the energy and toughness we showed in Game One, we're going to be in a good position as the season continues."
Kentucky Christian will look to carry that momentum into its next conference matchup
