Knights Lose to Bluefield, 19-31
Grayson, KY - In a football game that from a statistical standpoint was very similar for the two competitors. Total yards, first downs, third down efficiency, passing attempts and rushing attempts were essentially the same, but the one stat that cannot be overlooked and was the true difference in the outcome, 6 TURNOVERS! Because of this, the Knights dropped this game 19-31.
Maxwell Ward got the start and was 21-42 for 294 passing yards. He connected for two touchdowns, but suffered four interceptions. On the ground, Joshua Traylor had a big game with 124 rushing yards on 20 attempts (6.2/carry) while Brandon Carter punched a 5-yd run into the end zone for one of three KCU touchdowns.
From the receiving corps, Richmond Sims averaged 21.8 yards/catch on four receptions and a TD. Just behind Sims was Vincent Taylor (18.3 yds/catch) and Deterius Gideon with the other touchdown (13.5 yds/catch).
On the defensive side of the ball, Ellis Reed led KCU with 13 (4 solo; 9 assisted) total tackles for the second game in a row. Brian Hughes and Justin Lewis added 9 and 8 total tackles, respectively.
Kicker, Paul Rodriguez was successful on his only extra point attempt and averaged 53.5 yds /attempt during his two kickoffs.
The Knights travel to Union College next week for the first of two meetings with the Bulldogs. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
