Women's Soccer Win at Union
Barbourville, KY – The KCU Lady Knights soccer team traveled to Union College to take on the Bulldogs in an AAC contest. As the game entered the second half, scoreless, tension continued to build with both teams knowing a simple mistake could be the difference between a win and a loss.
In the 65th minute, the game was decided as Cacia Larsen (SO/Salt Lake City, UT) sent a scoring shot into the upper left corner of the goal to give the Lady Knights a 1-0 lead. Now it was up to the defense to secure the victory, which they did on this night.
Head Coach Logan Langseth said, "We changed the lineup and formation on Monday and the girls executed game plan perfectly. I was extremely pleased how they adjusted to the staff's direction and it certainly showed today." Langseth went on the mention the adversity KCU faced when team captain, Maria Rojas (SR/Jackson, NJ) was injured, "When Maria went down, the entire team rallied around her and you could see a difference in their energy. It was gratifying as a coach to see them respond to what could have been devastating turn in the game."
Coach Langseth also pointed out Larsen's efforts during her 90 minutes on the pitch by saying, "this was her best game by a long shot."
Knights Stats
- Larsen's goal (unassisted) from 25-yds out was her first game winner in a Knights uniform. She took six shots with three being on goal and the only goal scored in the game.
- Ariel Herter (FR/Fort Knox, KY) had three shots during play and Alex Coburn (JR/Mt. Sterling, KY) chipped in with two shots.
- Pitching her first collegiate shutout, Millie Conod (FR/Walsall, England) stopped all eight shots she faced to secure the Lady Knights road win.
Team Totals
- KCU held a +2 advantage over the Bulldogs in total shots taken, 14-12.
The Winning Factor
- Persistence … KCU continued to play hard until they made something good happen even though they lost their captain. That and an excellent effort by the defense.
