Despite Barnes' 40, Knights Lose to Eagles
Grayson, KY – Brandon Barnes poured in a career high 40 points but it was not enough to push the Knights past Alice Lloyd College. KCU came up just short as ALC took a 102-105 win home to Pippa Passes, KY.
With both teams holding a double digit lead at some point in the contest and there being nine ties and seven lead changes, it was inevitable that this game would come down to a final shot … and it did. Barnes bid to throw the game into overtime came up wanting as his three-point shot bounced off the back of the rim and settled into the Eagles possession as time expired. He would finish with a 12-22 shooting night from the floor and 7-13 from behind the arc to go with 9-11 from the charity stripe. Two other Knights reached double figures with Hayden Dunn adding 23 points on 10-13 shooting and seven rebounds plus nine assists. As well as Cole Gilliland connecting for 15 points on 6-10 from the floor and 2-3 three-pointers.
Chase Porter's nine rebounds led the Knights in that category with Owens Crawford pulling down seven rebounds of his own and handing out five assists from the point guard position. For the night, KCU shot .528 from the floor and .448 behind the arc to go with a stellar effort from the free throw line. The Knights made 13-16 attempts (.813), but it didn't make any difference as the Eagles managed 10 more shots than KCU and that provided the winning edge.
The Knights are off until next Tuesday as they travel to Batavia, OH to play the University of Cincinnati –Clermont. That game is set to tip at 7:00 PM.
