Knights Scare #6 Keiser
Athens, TN – For the first 38 minutes of the 60-minute homecoming game, KCU held the lead over the #6 Seahawks of Keiser University. Unfortunately, 21 unanswered points in the second half put an end to the upset bid Saturday afternoon.
The back-breaker was a 47-yd sprint up the middle to paydirt for Marques Burgess. KU was clinging to a 1-point lead and the Knights were desperate to regain control of the football. That play changed the Knights approach from getting into position for a game-winning field goal, to needing a TD and 2-point conversion to force overtime.
Knights Stats
- Jordan Brown (FR/Knoxville, TN) led the Knights offense with 144 yards rushing and two touchdowns. He averaged 4.8 yards per carry and chipped in 47 receiving yards.
- With 15 completions, Justin White (SR/El Paso, TX) threw for 190 yards and a long pass of 30 yards.
- Corey Garcia (JR/San Jose, CA) and Diego Soto (SO/Orange Park, FL) combined for five receptions and 113 receiving yards during the game.
- KCU kicker, Paul Rodrigues hit a 38-yd field goal.
- Defensively, Jakobe North (JR/Harvest, AL) led the team in tackles with seven, four of those being of the solo variety. Lilton Horne (JR/Washington Park, FL) and Tamichael Shellman Jr (SO/Jacksonville, FL) added six and five tackles, respectively
Team Totals
- The Knights offense held a +9 advantage in first downs (24-15) as well as a 355-293 lead in total offense.
- KCU held a significant edge in third and fourth down efficiency over Keiser as well as time of possession.
- The only significant category the Seahawks controlled was the scoreboard, and that was the most important. Outside of that, KCU more than held their own with the #6 team in the country.
The Winning Factor
- The 21 straight points scored during the third and fourth quarters.
