Knights Football Wins at Union
Barbourville, KY – Kentucky Christian's football traveled to south central Kentucky to play the Bulldogs of Union College and came away with the 34-28 road win.
Amassing 515 yards of total offense, KCU their ground game to control the ball. Gaining 282 yards on 54 carries, the Knights averaged 5.2 yds/carry, but this is not to say they abandoned the passing game as that facet of the offense accounted for 234 yards. If not for four turnovers (3 interception/1fumble) that ended promising drives, it's not hard to imagine a more lop-sided outcome, but give the Bulldogs credit for their defensive effort when it was needed most.
Offensively, the star of the game was De'Anta Sipp (JR/Senatobia, MS), who carried the ball 31 times (6+yds/carry) on the way to 197 rushing yards for the game and 4 TDs. All three stats are career bests. His running mate, Barkei Minter (SR/Bessemer, AL), gained 74 yards on 16 rushing attempts.
Through the air, Kris Lewis (SR/Birmingham, AL) and Anton Wheeler (SR/Birmingham, AL) combined for 139 receiving yards and averaged 16.4 and 14.3 yards per completion, respectively. Josh Drucker (SO/Carrollton, TX) completed 19/29 attempts with a long connection of 48 yds to Lewis but suffered those three picks.
On the defensive side of the ball, Germonta Brisbane (FR/Charleston, SC) tallied 11 total tackles and one sack for a four-yard loss along with forcing a fumble. Just behind Brisbane, Jacobi Emery (JR/Louisburg, NC) produced nine total tackles. Also forcing turnovers were Anthony Grant (FR/Augusta, GA) with a fumble and Trey Malashevich (JR/Ceredo, WV) with an interception.
