UPike Defends Home Field vs Knights
Pikeville, KY – The Kentucky Christian football team made their way down US-23 to take on Mid-South Conference foe, the UPike Bears, when time had expired the home team owned a 49-38 win.
When looking at the numbers, most of them are even or favor the Knights except for one specific stat line … RUSHING. The Bears had a 211-yd advantage over KCU in that game-controlling statistical area and when the Knights had cut their lead to four points, it was a fourth and long rush that kept their offense on the field. It ultimately proved the difference in tonight's contest as UPike would find pay dirt and the insurance score they desperately needed.
With 415 total yards gained offensively, the Knights put themselves in position to take another MSC win but were unfortunately unable to sufficiently slow down the Bears offense. The duo of Dorian Isaak (JR/Juneau, AK) and Josh Drucker (SO/Carrollton, TX) hit of 50% of their passes while running the offense, had two touchdowns to their credit and tossed an interception apiece. De'Anta Sipp (JR/Senatobia, MS) averaged 3.3 yds/carry for 70 total yards which was the first game he didn't reach the magical 4 yds/carry plateau for a running back but he did haul in an 18 yd reception for a touchdown. The Kentucky Christian "Big 3" receiving corp lived up to their reputation as they averaged 10+ yds/catch as a group. DeVon McCoy (SO/North Charleston, SC) led all receivers with 112 yds and had three TDs while receiving mate, Kris Lewis (SR/Birmingham, AL), also reached the 100 yd plateau with 103 receiving yards.
Defensively, Austin Archey (JR/Poteau, OK) was credited with 12 total tackles with eight of them being solo tackles. Anthony Grand had six solo tackles and the trio of Richard Carroll (JR/Houston, TX), Trey Malashevich (JR/Ceredo, WV) and Qualon Tinsley (FR/Owensboro, KY) had four each. Malashevich also had an interception as a part of his night's work.
KCU returns to Knights Stadium next Saturday for a game with Warner University and will be the annual Homecoming game. Kickoff is set for 12:00PM.
