Knights Suffer 1st Loss of Season
Morehead, KY – The Kentucky Christian (2-1) football team entered their game with NCAA I Morehead State University (2-1) with a level of confidence born from a 2-0 start which included a Top-25 victory. But on their home field, the MSU Eagles were determined not to be victory #3 for the Knights.
Following an offensive explosion for both teams and a three-point lead for the Eagles, MSU made the most of their halftime adjustments and outscored Kentucky Christian by 36 points, to win going away, 73-34. Morehead had 140 more net yards (535-395) from scrimmage and nine more first downs for the game. While the net passing yards were essentially a wash, it was the dominance of the Eagles ground game that was the difference … outgaining KCU 283-125.
Returning to the starting line-up this week, Dorian Isaak (JR/Juneau, AK) had a very good outing, completing 14 passes for 269 yds and four touchdowns. He also had one interception. DeAnta Sipp got his customary 100+ yard game with 112 yds on 26 carries (4.3/carry) and a touchdown. Anton Wheeler (SR/Birmingham, AL) led the receiving corps with two TDs and 129 yds worth of catches, including a 74-yd reception for a score. The duo of DeVon McCoy (SO/North Charleston, SC) and Brendan Ray (SO/Birmingham, AL) each found the end zone for a touchdown.
The Knights return to Mid-South Conference action next week as they travel to the University of Pikeville for a Saturday evening contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00PM.
