Knights Get MSC Road Win at CCU
Cincinnati, OH - The Kentucky Christian University football team got their first MSC Bluegrass Division win of the season as they traveled to Cincinnati Christian University on the last Saturday in October. The 24-19 victory brought their 2018 divisional record to 1-3.
As the final score would indicate, the team stats were extremely close during this contest. The Knights held a slight edge in First Downs (20-19) and Third Down Efficiency (7/17-3/15) while a margin of three offensive plays separated the teams on this afternoon. With 216 yds through the air, the Golden Eagles won the passing battle. Another indication of the close nature of the game, both teams were intercepted twice with CCU's final errant toss being a key difference in the fourth quarter. Senior defensive back, Cameron Heath, stepped in front of a CCU receiver on the Knights 2yd line and returned it 98 yds to pay dirt.
Both teams struggled with the ground game. KCU managed 85 yds for the game while the Golden Eagles could only pick up 61 net yards from scrimmage. Although the Knights couldn't mount a consistent rushing attack, what yards were gained were very profitable as KCU pushed two plays into the Cincinnati Christian end zone for touchdowns. The first, a 5yd run by De'Anta Sipp in the third quarter that culminated a 19 yd drive following a CCU fumble. Jug Smith capped off a 36 yd drive with a 2yd QB keeper for what would be the winning score.
For the Knights, Smith (SR/QB), was 10-21 through the air for 91 yds and a touchdown to go with his rushing TD. On the ground, Sipp led KCU rushers with 61 yds and his third-quarter TD. Cristian Ceja led the receiving corp with 40 receiving yds and Devon McCoy recorded his 6th touchdown reception when he hauled in an 11yd TD pass from Smith in the third quarter.
Kentucky Christian will celebrate Senior Day next Saturday and take on the Phoenix of Cumberland University. Kick-off is set for 1:30PM EST.
