Georgetown Hands Knights Narrow Home Loss
Grayson, KY – In a game that saw a combined 1,085 yards of total offense, perhaps it was inevitable to feel the team that had the ball last was going to be the victor. Despite a furious fourth-quarter comeback from 22 points down, the Tigers held on to defeat the Knights 50-35.
The final score is not indicative of how close this game became in the final period of play as it required a big 4th down stop near midfield to ice away the Tiger win. The Knights had drawn to within eight points following a 42-yd pick-six by Trey Malashevich at 35-43 and were driving the ball (after holding GC on a fourth and three) toward the potential tying score when the Georgetown defense came up with a fourth-down stop of their own. The ensuing Hunter Krause touchdown pass to Ross Cox put the final nail in the hard-fought victory.
Offensively, KCU was led by Javin Harrison, who had two touchdown runs of more than 50 yds (50, 69) and was credited with a career-high 223 rushing yards from scrimmage on 15 attempts. For the day, he averaged an incredible 14.9 yds/carry. De'Anta Sipp gained 60 yds on nine rushes and had a 27 yd scamper for a KCU touchdown in the fourth quarter to help keep the Knights close. Behind center, Davis Burgin threw for 194 yds on 19/49 attempts with a touchdown and two picks. The recipient of most of Burgin's efforts was Devon McCoy who hauled in seven completions for 100 yds and a touchdown.
Next week, the Knights travel to Cincinnati, OH for a game with the Golden Eagles of Cincinnati Christian University. Kick-off is set for 1:30 PM
