Knights Struggle at Bethel
McKenzie, KY – Kentucky Christian made its way to McKenzie, TN for their second divisional contest of the 2018 season. The Bethel Wildcats entered the game as the #9 team in the newest NAIA Top-25 poll and on this day, they lived up to their lofty ranking as they handily defeated their opponents from Grayson, KY.
BU nearly doubled the Knights in total offense and held a 30-20 advantage in first downs for the afternoon. Even though the total number of plays executed by the teams was very close, KCU-81 / BU-85, the yards gained per play reveals the uphill battle the Knights faced. The Knights averaged a respectable 4.27 yds/play while Bethel produced an amazing 7.86 yds/play. With that type of explosiveness, it is no wonder how this game got out of control for KCU.
One bright area for KCU was their rushing attack as they were able to average 4.8 yards per rushing attempt and ended the game with 148 rushing yards. Javin Harrison gained 85 yards on 12 attempts and scored one of the two Knight touchdowns for the afternoon. Also, averaging over five yds/carry was De'Anta Sipp who gained 53 yards in his nine rushes. Freshman Davis Burgin threw for the other KCU touchdown as he connected with Devon McCoy on a 7-yd pass to cap a 75-yd drive. Burgin was 7-18 for 103 yds and an interception.
Next up for KCU are the Tigers of Georgetown College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30PM at Knights stadium.
