Knights Lose by a Touchdown on Homecoming
Grayson, KY – Kentucky Christian hosted the Tigers of Campbellsville University for each team's first MSC Bluegrass Division game. But it was the Tigers that walked away with the 27-35 point victory.
Both teams racked up 400+ yards of total offense and right at 80 offensive plays. As you would expect, it would the average yards/play extremely close as well with CU at 5.72 and KCU at 5.14. So with all the offensive numbers being so close, what turned out to be the difference? As it turns out three special teams miscues and a possible TD pass dropped was key to the Tiger's win.
A blocked punt, for the second game in a row, was recovered in the Knights' end zone for a touchdown. Next, a missed field goal just before half-time and finally, a missed extra point following KCU'S final touchdown of the afternoon. If you do the math, that's 11 points in an 8-point loss. Not to mention the extremely catchable ball dropped in the end zone for the Knights. All totaled, that's 18 points and was the difference.
For the Knights, Jug Smith was 23-41 for 228 yds and rushed for an additional 11 yds. Javin Harrison rushed for 53 yds on 14 attempts and scored two touchdowns while Da'Anta Sipp ripped off a 26 yd run to paydirt in the 3rd quarter. The receivers were led by Devon McCoy and his 11 catches for 165 yds.
KCU enters a bye week and returns to the field on Saturday, October 13th as they travel to Bethel University for a 1:30PM kick-off.
