Knights Lose to #16 Cumberlands
Grayson, KY – In the latest NAIA football poll, the University of the Cumberlands came in at #16 and when the game had finished they had completed their task by winning 10-40.
Even though the final score reflects a 30-point victory, the score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 10-23 and the final outcome was certainly in doubt. KCU opened the afternoon's scoring with a 10-play 67-yd drive that resulted in a 24-yd Eric Parra Curiel field goal. The lead was short-lived as the Patriots returned the kick-off all the way back to the Knights 25-yard line and one play later saw Josiah Robbins connect with Joronnie Hinton for the touchdown. The opening drives for the two teams brought the score to 3-7.
UCumberlands put the next three scores on the board as they caused a Knights safety and got a TD through the air and on the ground. But KCU put together a short-field drive of 35-yds on six plays that ended with a De'Anta Sipp 1-yd dive.
KCU was led in rushing by Javin Harrison and Devon McCoy's 96 yards led all receivers. The duo of Jug Smith and Davis Burgin combined for 202-yds through the air. The Knights stay at Knights Stadium next Saturday as they take on Campbellsville University for the 2018 Homecoming activities. Kick-off is set for 1:30PM.
