Cris Garcia drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Knights past Wilberforce 15-3 on Friday. Garcia singled in the sixth scoring two, sacrifice bunted in the second scoring one, and doubled in the third scoring one.
The Knights opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two sacrifice flies. KCU first got on the board when Yan Rivera hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
KCU added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Cole Thomason doubled, Garcia laid down a sacrifice bunt, Rivera singled, and scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run.
KCU added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Thomason singled, Aiden Bevan singled, and Garcia doubled, each scoring one run.
The Knights scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gus Mullins singled, scoring two runs, Garcia singled, scoring two runs, and Austin Markwell tripled, scoring one run.
Elijah Spurlock earned the win for the Knights. The right-handed pitcher gave up three hits and three runs (zero earned) over three innings, striking out five and walking three. Jayden Anderson took the loss for Wilberforce University Bulldogs. The righty went two and two-thirds innings, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits, striking out none and walking one. Dylan Nowlin and Andrew Combs each came on in relief for KCU and shutdown Wilberforce.
The Knights piled up 13 hits in the game. Bevan led KCU with three hits in four at bats from the leadoff position. Thomason collected two hits in three at bats.
