Kentucky Christian Men’s Basketball Honors Three Seniors
Grayson, Ky. – Kentucky Christian University Men's Basketball will honor three seniors on Monday, February 17, as the Knights take the floor inside Donald R. "Dick" Damron Hall of Champions on the legendary Ron Arnett Court for Senior Night.
KCU will recognize D'Angelo Stoxstill, Jay Hickman, and Markell Hood for their dedication, leadership, and lasting impact on the men's basketball program during a special pregame ceremony.
These three seniors have represented Kentucky Christian University with pride, on the court, in the classroom, and through their character, perseverance, and faith.
D'Angelo Stoxstill
D'Angelo Stoxstill reached a major milestone earlier this season, surpassing the 1,000-career point mark in a Kentucky Christian uniform. Over his career, Stoxstill has appeared in 78 games, earning the start in 73 of those contests, underscoring his consistency and importance to the program. He owns a career field-goal percentage of 59.1 percent and is enjoying his most efficient season to date, shooting a career-best 67.6 percent from the field.
"D'Angelo Stoxstill, hailing from Inkster, Michigan, is a dedicated athlete with an impressive track record," said Head Coach Charlie Pack. "As a three-year starter and a thousand-point scorer, he exemplifies what it means to be a committed teammate and leader. Known as a gym rat and a diligent student, he maintains a remarkable 4.0 GPA. D'Angelo truly embodies the essence of a student-athlete, showcasing not only his talents on the court but also his academic excellence. This outstanding young man is poised for a bright future ahead."
Markell Hood
Markell Hood reached the 1,000-career point milestone earlier this season, further cementing his place among the program's top contributors. Hood has appeared in 35 games for the Knights, earning the start in 30 contests, and has been a consistent offensive presence throughout the year.
Thus far this season, Hood has scored 413 points and counting, providing scoring punch, energy, and leadership for Kentucky Christian as he has embraced a key role on the floor.
"Markell Hood from Overland Park, Kansas, epitomizes the concept of a student-athlete," Pack said. "With a GPA exceeding 3.5 and a record of over a thousand points scored, he has demonstrated exceptional commitment both academically and athletically. His growth during his time at KCU extends beyond the basketball court; he has also flourished spiritually. While the journey hasn't always been smooth, Markell faces challenges head-on, learning and evolving from each experience. His resilience and dedication highlight his character and promise as a young man."
Jay Hickman
Jay Hickman, a graduate transfer from Milligan University, has made his impact through perseverance, leadership, and efficiency. Despite facing a season marked by injuries and illness, Hickman has remained a steady and encouraging presence for the Knights.
When on the floor, Hickman has been extremely effective offensively, shooting an impressive 71.4 percent from the field this season, showcasing his basketball IQ and ability to contribute whenever called upon.
"Jay Hickman, a graduate transfer from Milligan University hailing from Fayetteville, North Carolina, has faced a year marked by adversity," Pack said. "Despite encountering numerous injuries and illnesses, he has remained a steadfast presence, consistently showing up with positive energy, whether from the sidelines or during practice. Jay's unwavering support encourages his teammates to strive for their best. He exemplifies the true meaning of a student-athlete with an impressive 3.8 GPA during his time at KCU. With his resilience and determination, good things are on the horizon for Jay as he looks ahead.
As Kentucky Christian celebrates Senior Night inside Donald R. "Dick" Damron Hall of Champions, the University honors not only the careers of Stoxstill, Hickman, and Hood, but also the faith, perseverance, leadership, and commitment to excellence they have displayed throughout their time as Knights.
