Kentucky Christian Volleyball Splits Matches at Emileigh Cooper Memorial Tournament
Kentucky Christian University's volleyball team concluded the Emileigh Cooper Memorial Tournament with a 2-2 record, securing victories against Midway University and West Virginia Tech on Saturday after two losses on Friday.
The Knights faced a challenging start on Friday, falling to tournament host University of Rio Grande in straight sets (25-22, 25-16, 25-11). Freshman outside hitter Khia Robinson led the team with 10 kills and a .320 hitting percentage. Later that day, Kentucky Christian suffered another 3-0 defeat to Shawnee State University.
Saturday's matches saw a turnaround for the Knights. They swept Midway University 3-0, with sophomore Lydia Ward contributing eight kills at a .222 hitting percentage, and freshman Brooke Pittmon adding five kills at .364. Freshman setter Grace Lewis recorded 15 assists in the match.
In the final match against West Virginia Tech, senior Ally Coriell led with 13 kills at a .320 hitting percentage, while Ward added 11 kills at .450. Lewis achieved a double-double with five kills at .375 and 17 assists. Sophomore Mary Ansley Herrington facilitated the offense with 25 assists. Defensively, junior Faith Fowler and freshman Danika Street each tallied 11 digs.
Coach Russ Cassidy commented on the team's performance, stating, "It was a good weekend to see how well we can compete in the River States Conference. We had only one game under our belt compared to a couple others that had several. Being 3-2 at this point is very encouraging."
