Softball Earns Sweep over Columbia

Columbia, SC – The Lady Knights traveled to Columbia College for a doubleheader with the Koalas in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) softball play on Saturday. KCU returned to their winning ways, as they were able to unpack the brooms. They won the first game 10-2 and took a close decision in the second half of the twin-bill.
Game 1
- Three different Lady Knights collected two hits each. Victoria Breckler (2b), Katelyn Pavey, and Erica Vain (2b) accounted six of the team’s 10 total hits.
- Pavey produced two doubles drove in two while also scoring two during the game.
- With three runs scored, Vain led her team in that category.
- Ashton Blackburn, Emma Fromm, and Hannah Ison drove in two runs each.
- Blackburn also got her 15th win from the circle. She went the full seven innings, giving up two runs (one earned run) while striking out four and walking one.
Game 2
- Kaytlin Leyvas had two of the Lady Knights six hits, one of them being a double, in Game 2 and scored one run.
- Pavey was squarely in the middle of the offense once again as she went 1-2 with a run scored and an RBI. She also coaxed a walk for the Koala pitching staff.
- Ison was 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored as well.
- Caroline Donithan started the game and spread five Columbia hits over 5.1 innings for the win, including the two Koala runs while striking out two and not allowing a walk.
- Blackburn earned a save (#3) as she went 1.2 innings, striking out two and did not surrender a hit or walk in relief.

The Lady Knights extend their road trip with a doubleheader at Johnson University-TN on Sunday. The games are set for 3 & 5 PM.
