Knights Split with Alice Lloyd Non-Conference Play

Pippa Passes, KY – The Knights stepped out of conference today to play Alice Lloyd College in a mid-week doubleheader. The home standing Eagles ran away with the first game, 3-16, but KCU grabbed the second contest 3-2 to avoid the sweep.

Knights fell behind early and could not come back in the loss to Alice Lloyd. ALC scored on a home run by Corey Jefferson and a double by Cannon Ferrell in the first inning. With the Eagles scoring ten runs in the third inning, thanks to singles by Jefferson, Noah Dingess, Kizer Turner, and Ferrell, walks by Ferrell and Caleb Horton, an error on a ball put in play by Horton, and a double by Dawson Beckett.

Will Gladson got the win for Alice Lloyd. The ace surrendered three runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out two. Adam Cooper took the loss for Knights. Cooper lasted two innings, allowing six hits and nine runs while walking one.

The Knights tallied one home run on the day. Evan Juniper went yard in the seventh inning while Yan Rivera went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Knights in hits.

Both teams were strong on the mound in the second game, but KCU defeated Eagles 3-2 as the Knights pitchers allowed just three hits to the home team. The Kentucky Christian offense posted their first run in the second inning as Josh Kellogg doubled on a 2-0 count bringing home Cristian Garcia. Evan Juniper’s two-run dinger in the fifth inning accounted for the final score for KCU. Cole Ottersberg went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Knights in hits.

Austin Thompson was the winning pitcher going six full innings, allowing one earned run. He struck out four and walked two. Cole Riley threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Riley recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Knights.
