Milligan’s Late Score Provides Series Edge over Knights
Elizabethton, TN - Sunday's game against Milligan was a heartbreaker for Knights, as they lost the lead late in a 6-8 defeat. The game was tied at six with Milligan batting in the bottom of the eighth when Lobo singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs. Despite the loss, KCU collected seven hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Milligan had nine hits on the way to victory.
The Knights got on the board in the first inning when an error scored one run for Knights and had a three-run lead following their half of the seventh. KCU tallied three runs in the second inning led by Cristian Garcia, Yan Rivera, and Cody Holub, all driving in runs in the frame and single runs in the 4th and 6th. Rivera went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Knights in hits.
MU evened things up at six in the bottom of the seventh inning when Braden Spano doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. The Buffs totaled three runs in the seventh inning. Caleb Berry and Spano, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs, led Milligan’s offense in the inning. Milligan collected nine hits on the day. Guzman, Spano, and Hullette all collected multiple hits for the Buffaloes.
Creed Werker was credited with the victory for Milligan. In relief, he surrendered two runs on six hits over seven and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking zero. Vince LaConte started the game for Milligan. The hurler went one and one-third innings, allowing four runs on one hit and striking out one
Zach Pope took the loss for Knights. The pitcher surrendered three runs on one hit over two-thirds of an inning. Tucker Sorenson started the game for Knights. The lefthander lasted six and a third innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out six.
Next Up
The Knights will host the Golden Bears from WVU Tech on Tuesday. The game is set to begin at 2:00 PM.
