Lady Knights Lose in Opening Round
Winona Lake, IN – Kentucky Christian opened the 2023 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Basketball Tournament with a 51-68 loss to the tournament’s #1 seed, Oakland City University Mighty Oaks. With the loss, KCU will now play the Columbia International University Rams, a team with which they are very familiar.
During the regular season, the Lady Knights split the season series with fellow Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) member CIU as both teams won on their own court. However, that did not end their on-the-court battles necessitated by AAC conference tournament schedule. Following the tournament seeding procedure, the Lady Knights and Rams met in the opening round, Columbia International earning the higher seed and the win.
So here we are with Round #4 between the two teams. Tomorrow’s game has an 8:30 AM tip-off.
Stats (vs. Oakland City)
- Cassie Baygents and Bell Sparks led KCU offensively with 12 pts and six rebs each. Sparks added three assists and three steals.
- The only other player to reach double-digits, Jasmine Flowers had 11 and six rebounds while sinking 3 3-pters.
- Jada Higgins led the team in rebounding with seven.
