VolleyKnights Lose Two at Union
Barbourville, KY - The Kentucky Christian volleyball team joined the University of the Cumberlands for a tri-match hosted by Union College. KCU opened play with the home team and took them to five sets only to lose the fifth set and the match, 2-3 (25-22, 25-16, 20-25, 15-25, and 7-15).
Following the opening match with UC, the Knights took the court against the Patriots where the Cumberlands defeated their opponent, 0-3 (12-25, 8-25, and 15-25).
Vs. Union
Leading KCU and collecting yet another double-double, Kristin Upshaw-Mendoza had 13 kills and 15 digs as well as an ace. Right behind her were the duo of Emily Adkins (9) and Delanie Gilliland (8) who combined for 17 kills. With seven kills, each, Hannah Cron, Gwen Messer and Grace Morris provided additional offensive punch. Kileigh Boggs recorded 26 assists with 18 more provided by Lyndi Starkey to lead the VolleyKnights in that important stat line.
Defensively, Ashlyn Funk registered 16 digs with Anna Cruser chipping in 12. At the net, Adkins led the team with two solo and four assisted blocks.
Vs. Cumberlands
Leading Kentucky Christian in the second match of the day, Naomi Naugler was credited with four kills, one solo/two assisted blocks, and a dig. Once again, Boggs and Starkey led the offense with a combined 11 assists.
On the defensive side of things, Funk, Starkey and Audrey Villareal had seven digs apiece.
