VolleyKnights Lose to Union
Grayson, KY - The Kentucky Christian University volleyball team opened their 2022 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) season by hosting the Union College Bulldogs. Union started fast as they took the first two sets at 17 & 19, but KCU bounced back to win set three, 25-21. With the Knights grabbing momentum, UC squashed any hope for the home team by racing out to a 17-25 win in the fourth and final set. The Bulldogs won 1-3.
KCU was led tonight on the offensive side of the stat sheet by Kristin Upshaw-Mendoza with 11 kills, two aces and an assist. Joining her were the duo of Delanie Gilliland and Naomi Naugler with eight kills each while Lyndi Starkey (18) and Hannah Cron (13) combined for 31 assists. As a team, Kentucky Christian produced 11 service aces, led by Lacey Morris with four, and followed closely by Anna Cruser and Ashlyn Funk who had two aces each.
With 20 digs, Funk led the defensive charge while Upshaw-Mendoza was credited with eight digs, a solo, and two assisted blocks. Emily Adkins also added a solo and two assisted blocks during the highly competitive game.
Who's Up Next
KCU will be on the road this weekend as they make a swing through Georgia to play Point University (9/16) and Reinhardt University (9/17). The Point match will begin at 6:30 PM and a 1:00 PM opening serve is scheduled for the Reinhardt match.
