Siena Heights – Day 1

Adrian, MI - The VolleyKnights have traveled Michigan for the Siena Heights University volleyball tournament. The six-team field will provide KCU two games on Friday and Saturday as well. Day 1 sees the Knights play the host Saints and the Lakers of Roosevelt University.

KCU dropped the first match, 0-3 (15-25, 19-25, 16-25) to SHU but bounced back to defeat Roosevelt 3-1 (25-23, 25-11, 23-25, 25-11) in four-set finish.

Siena Heights

The home team left no doubt about their desire to defend the home court ? they did just that. With a +19 kill differential, +18 assist differential, three more aces, and doubled the VolleyKnights block total, the Saints controlled the contest.

Offensively, KCU was led by Emily Adkins, Delanie Gilliland and Kristin Upshaw-Mendoza as they totaled seven kills each. With 11 & 10 assists, respectively, Hannah Cron and Lyndi Starkey ran the offense. On the defensive side, Anna Cruser collected 14 digs to lead the Knights.

Roosevelt

With 11 kills each, Gilliland and Upshaw-Mendoza paced the VolleyKnights. Freshman, Naomi Naugler added five kills and was credited with one solo and four assisted blocks. KCU served very well during the match with 16 total aces, led by Cruser, Upshaw-Mendoza and Faith Fowler.

Ashlyn Funk had 13 digs to lead Kentucky Christian while Cruser chipped in eight. Adkins made her presence known at the net defensively as well with two solo and one assisted block.

Tomorrow?s opponents will be Mount Vernon Nazarene (12:00PM) and Cardinal Stritch (2:00PM).
